Goodbye Sweet Lissy

It is with great sorrow we mourn the loss of Alissa Jean. She was brave and fought hard, but this morning she passed away. I wrote her this short letter to say goodbye.

A Letter to Lissy

Dear Alissa,

Although you were only with us for a short time I want to thank you for everything. I want to thank you for the courage you had to fight for your life. I know the doctors didn?t think you had much of a chance to even survive your birth, but you did prove them wrong. I want to thank you for touching the lives of your family, friends, nurses, and doctors. You have touched the hearts of many people and I am so proud to call you my daughter. Thank you for being so beautiful. I know you were the talk of the nursery. I want to thank you for at least giving me some time to get to know you and love you. You will be in my heart forever. And finally I’d like to thank you for waiting for me to be with you to say good bye. I will always love you my sweet little Lissy.

Love,

Your Father

How special this little Lissy …to be so little and to leave such a very big lump of sadness in us all; and to, at the same time, fill us with so much love….for you Sarah and Jay and for all whose lives she touched. Your little family entwined with all the rest of the family and friends, have shown us the power of love.
You are in our hearts always but especially right now. with love, Auntie Debi, Olie, Ari and Eli

  16. Lissy,
It is so hard to find the words to comfort and console especially when my heart aches and I don\’t want to let you go.
You gave yourself so freely for all eleven days you filled our hearts with gentle love while we hoped and prayed.
None of us are as brave as you so bare with us please while we learn the lessons that only you could teach.
That Daddys and Mommies too are stronger than we know.
That life can be a struggle but is so worth the fight.
That it\’s not the days or years that count but how far you reach.
That even for one so tiny and small our hearts can open wide.
Connected by our love of you and our joy and pride.
We are gonna miss you Lissy but only for awhile.
Cause we will think of you often and then our hearts will smile.
Lissy Grandma she will carry you with her always.

  17. Jason and Sarah- I am so sorry for your loss of Alissa. She brought you joy for a few weeks and she will be in your hearts and soul forever. God is watching over you guys and he already has blessed your lives.

I am so sorry for your loss. Everyone here at Campbell is definitely mourning with you. What an amazing little lady!!
I just want to let you know how proud I am of you for bringing two incredible children into this world. They are truly inspiring. The strength with which you have handled all of these events is awe inspiring as well. Having had experience with this before, I know it is more difficult than anyone can imagine.
    Lots of love to you,
    Tina
P.S. Sarah, I MISS MY NEIGHBOR!! It\’s pretty darn lonely without you… You\’d think I\’d be used to people leaving me mid-year by now, but I\’m not!! =)

  20. I am so sorry for your loss. I am struck by how lucky Lissy was to have you two as parents to love her (as you will always) and to have such courage as you rode the rollar coaster. Thanks so much for keeping us all informed for it has made me feel like I knew Lissy.

  21. Dearest Jason and Sarah,
My heart aches as I read this blog today. Lissy was a strong little girl. The two of you have inspired me with your courage. I was wondering if you know of a good premmie charity I can donate to in Lissy\’s name? Or perhaps the hospital you are in can accept a donation in her name?
Lots of love from your friend in NY.
    – Julia Gliner
